C40 Tea Shou
When I was little, there was no thermos or water dispenser to keep water warm. If you wanted to drink hot tea in the winter, you had to wait till after the dinner was cooked, so you could use the big pot to boil water for tea. After the tea was made, the teapot would be put into a “Tea Shou” to keep its warmth so you could have hot tea any time you like.
What is a “Tea Shou?” Probably very few people see it nowadays. It is a hexagonal or round box with a lid that is made of thin rattan strips or straw. The box is for keeping the teapot inside so it has to be taller then the teapot.
The inside of the box and the lid are padded with cotton and covered with fabric for heat isolation. It is called Tea Nest, Tea Cage or Tea Shou. It is just like the modern thermos.
